The Dutch National Deltaprogramme developed a flood risk management strategy for the areas around The Netherlands’ major rivers. In these low-lying areas, flood risk increases over time, caused by a number of factors such as the rise of river water levels under influence of climate change. To deal with this increasing flood risk, the Delta Programme developed a long-term flood risk strategy, in which large-scale dike reinforcements are complemented with interventions that enlarge the rivers’ watercourse. The formulation of this strategy was a delicate process, in which each word and phrase has been carefully weighed. Defacto Urbanism was asked to produce a series of compelling illustrations to help in getting the right message across.
